Trata-se de um fenômeno da Internet, que precisa melhor ser compreendido pois está sendo usado mundialmente em várias esferas da comunicação humana, revoluncionado a forma como as pessoas lidam com as  informações que são veiculados pela rede mundial de computadores.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Seguindo o processo de formação de palavras da língua inglesa, podcasting é a prática de se produzir e publicar podcast. O podcaster é o produtor e autor dos arquivos de áudio que por sua vez possui um propósito comunicativo. O tipo de software que agrega o podcast depois que o usuário de inscreve é denominado de podcatcher.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Em termos bakhtinianos, o podcasting é a prática enunciativa, o podcast é o tipo de enunciado relativamente estável e podcaster é o enunciador.  Similar ao propósito comunicativo do blog, o podcast procura disseminar conteúdo em gravações de áudio de autoria dos próprios podcasters sem o controle rígido do comércio eletrônico. Os membros dessa prática discursiva, na sua grande maioria publicam suas produções de forma gratuita na rede, compartilhando com milhares de outros enunciadores/enunciatários.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Autores como Stanley (2006), Moura e Carvalho (2006), Jeff McQuillan (2006), Peter Travis (2007),  Anne O’Bryan e Volker Hegelheimer (2007) Souza e Martins (2007) defendem que o termo  podcasting é a combinação da palavra iPod  e broadcasting.  Cooper (2008) elucida que a origem do termo podcast não tem nenhum vínculo com o equipamento que executa arquivos de áudio, o iPod, produzido pela empresa norte-americana Apple Inc. Para ela o termo pod tem origem no conceito de “portable on demand” e cast vem do verbo em Inglês broadcast que significa transmissão de programas de rádio ou TV.  Não podemos ignorar que o sucesso do software iTunes  e a venda em grande escala do tocador de áudio ipod popularizaram a difusão da prática de podcasting entre os usuários da web, estimulando a trasmissão assícrona das informações. Segundo a autora o conceito de portabilidade e transmissão de áudio não é uma exclusividade da Apple Inc., mas sim uma prática corriqueira entre compartilhadores de arquivos multimídia na Web, o que torna possível a troca de informação por essa tecnologia entre usuários possuidores de diferentes hardwares e softwares.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Moura e Carvalho (2006) relatam que essa tecnologia foi apresentada ao mundo pelo Dj da MTV, Adam Curry e pelo produtor de software,  Dave Winer. Eles desenvolveram um aplicativo que tornava possível a transmissão de programas de rádio online diretamente para o tocador portátil de mp3 .&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Para ter acesso ao podcast é necessário que o usuário se conecte  à Internet a partir de uma máquina com recursos multimídias e que possua os softweres necessários à inscrição dos serviços. Ouvir áudio na Internet não é uma prática nova. A técnica de audio streaming há muito tempo vem sendo disseminada bem como a distribuição de conteúdo multim[idia desde a época de popularização dos softwares Napster e KaZaa.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;O que diferencia o podcast dos demais arquivos multimídias na Web é seu própostio comunicativo e a possibilidade de se increver nos podcast de acordo com a temática que seja pertinente ao usuário. Através da tecnologia RSS feed , que permite agregar em um único aplicativo todas as informações que são de interesse do usuário.  Vale lembrar que é preciso previamente se inscrever no podcast selecionado pelo usuário  através de um softwere que tenha incorporado a tecnlogia feed RSS.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Com esse recurso incorporado à prática de podcasting,  os tipos de enuncaidos chegam até o ilocucionário provocando uma atitude responsiva, fazendo com o que o usuário se torne membro do processo de enunciação instaurado na Web. Isso traz comodidade e versatiliade ao acesso de enunciados que passam a ser instantâneo à sua publicação, não importando o lugar nem o tempo: o acesso aos conteúdos postatos é atemporal. Após ser feito o download do arquivo de áudio na Internet, o usuário pode ouvir na comonidade do seu desktop, ou no tocador de mp3 portátil ou até mesmo do seu telefone celular: ele passa a controlar e regulamentar as temáticas em que deseja se incluir bem como o tempo que tem para se envolver com os tipos de enuciados  que são proliferados em podcast.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Em virtude da sua convergência,  a prática de podcasting ganha, no dia-a-dia, novas funções ao passo que a banda larga de trasmisssão se expande. Segunda a revista Coleção Info, edição 44, na pesquisa realizada pela The Mickinsey Quarterly em janeiro de 2007, com 2.847 executivos em todo o mundo, 17 % dos entrevistados informaram que usam o podcast como ferramenta comunicacional. O Massachusetts Institute of Technology e a University of California at Berkerley já oferecem, nos seus respectivos sites, o podcast de quase todas as aulas ou eventos ali realizados.  A Purdue University, por exemplo, na tentativa de difundir muldialmente o que é produzido na academia, está disponibilizando online todas as palestras que são proferidas naquela instituição.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;No campo pedagógico, essa iniciativa começa a emergir de forma produtiva. Os estudos de O’ Bryan e Hegelheimer (2007) orientam-nos para a integralização da prática de  podcasting com as atividades de listening em aulas de Inglês. Em pesquisa realizada na Midwestern Research University, com a participação de seis estudantes e o professor, eles avaliaram situações em que o podcasting foi empregado como parte das atividades de listening.  Por enquanto, afirmam eles, a tecnologia podcasting é relativamente nova, mas aos poucos os professores e pesquisadores começam a observar o seu potencial.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;O’Bryan e Hegelheimer (2007) mencionam que infelizmente, o uso do podcast em situações de aprendizagem ainda é bastante limitado. Embora a maioria dos estudantes faça uso constante do MP3 player, sua função ainda se limita à reprodução de músicas. Para esses teóricos, o currículo escolar precisa aproveitar o boom dessa tecnologia oferecendo material pedagógico voltado ao ensino de língua, ressaltando que uns dos benefícios dessa tecnologia é a possibilidade dos estudantes poderem se inscrever via internet em podcast de temática relacionada a cursos de línguas mantendo um contanto diário com as situações reais de uso da língua em contextos que envolvem falantes nativos. Thorne e Payne (2005) sugerem que o podcast pode ser sim utilizado como instrumento de ensino de línguas, pois possibilida o contato com gravações de fala em situações reais de comunicação.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Para Stanley (2006) o podcast deveria ser utilizado como um suplemento ao livro didático, como uma provável fonte fidedigna para prática de listening em aulas de línguas. Nessa mesma perspectiva Souza e Martins (2007) acrescentam:&lt;br /&gt;Uma outra forma de uso do podcasting consiste em fazer com que aprendizes de língua estrangeira disponibilizem arquivos de áudio na web. Suas apresentações são de resultado final de conteúdos previamente planejados e supervisionados de forma colaborativa. Isto é, professores e alunos compartilham juntos desde a confecção do tema até a sua gravação, edição e postagem do conteúdo na Internet (p. 223)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A prática de podcasting faz uso da escrita e da oralidade nas ambiências digitais e, dados os seus modos de produção e proliferação, considero tratar-se de um novo gênero digital. It’s an advanced writing course. Writing in English is  an intensive course whose goal is to develop the ability of the student to communicate complex situations clearly. It combines current theory with actual practice to prepare students as technical writers. During this learning process students will be able to analyze complex communication situations and design appropriate responses through tasks that involve problem solving, rhetorical theory, document design, oral presentations and writing teams. Each student will create process descriptions, a proposal, and practice writing on a variety of topics. It aims to insert the students in the field of computer assisted language learning, using properly the new information and communication technologies in their learning process. It presents the insights related to the application of the project as well its methodology and the theory it was based. The aims of the project were to include the students in the digital literary practices and to development linguistic competence to a properly communicative approach in English language.
